Curriculum Workshops

As part of our continuous development at Stockley Farm, we are looking to incorporate all aspects of the teaching curriculum into our farm visits. We are putting together a series of farm workshops which have been identified to us as areas that schools need to teach.  These workshops link very well to being taught on the farm.

We adopt a flexible approach depending on the needs of individual classes and can teach a combination of subjects or focus on a single topic area. We are able to work to National Curriculum Attainment Targets and can link topics to QCA schemes of work. We aim to cover relevant topic areas but our main objective is to make learning real and exciting with a hands on approach.

Examples of workshops

We planned a day for year 6 children based on the QCA topic “Interdependence and Adaptation”. The children spent time in the green houses and with the animals followed by a walk on our nature trail.

The sessions are all taught by relevant experts including a horticulturalist and animal husbandry specialist.  The sessions are tailored to children of a specific age with the help of a qualified teacher. We can also provide follow up activities including literacy and numeracy activities for teaching in the classroom. For example, after a science themed day at Stockley Farm, children could produce a persuasive writing piece on Organic Farming

There is also the opportunity for us to come into schools and cover aspects of the curriculum.

The following subjects are already available:

Science

- Life processes and Living things

Personal Health & Social Education

- Healthy Living and Eating
- Taking care of animals

Numeracy

- Shape, Space and Measure

Design Technology

- Structure of Buildings

Environmental Studies

- Organic Farming

If there is a specific area of the curriculum that you are covering in class that would benefit from a farm visit and wish to discuss how we can plan a day suited to your needs, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01565 777323 or contact Jane Docksey, Open Farm Manger, direct on 07892 419219.
