The Chicken run at Stockley farm is situated behind the duck pond on the outdoor play area. There are around 35 hens and 4 cockerels that all seem to get along very well. On average the hens lay eggs 6 out of 7 days, producing more than 200 eggs each week. The eggs are collected each day, cleaned and boxed ready for delivery.
The chicken houses allow plenty of shelter from bad whether, but essentially provide a clean and comfortable environment for laying. All of the chickens are free to roam around as they please within the fox proof surroundings. Later this year there will be a new run built by the orchard on the front paddock. This will allow us to increase the number of hens and improve their environment.
