Since 2000 Stockley Farm has been registered with the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The Countryside Stewardship Scheme is the Government's main scheme for the wider countryside which aims, to improve the natural beauty and diversity of the countryside, enhance, restore and recreate targeted landscapes, their wildlife habitats and historical features, and to improve opportunities for public access. Stockley farm has entered into a 10-year agreement to manage land in an environmentally beneficial way, and Stockley farm will endeavour to continue this way of farming.
If you look around the farm especially from the tractor and trailer ride you can see much of the new hedgerows.
The plants are traditional hawthorns. Which provide a
dense habitat for all sorts of wildlife. They are ideal
windbreaks and also act as enclosures for grazing animals. The plants have brown plastic tubes around the case at
The moment. This is to protect against rabbit damage,
and needs to be kept on for the first couple of years.
You can also see wood chipping on the ground. This
helps to stop weeds growing near to the hedge and
reduces competition for essential nutrients and water.
